Co-worker: “How was your birthday, Higgs?”
Me: “It was great! Probably one of the best I’ve had,” I replied with a grin.
Co-worker: “Oh. I figured you would have blogged about it.”
I had a fantastic birthday in September but I haven’t had time to blog about it. While I think I’ve given everyone a thank you note, here is my official thank you to everyone who was a part of it.
7am: Chat with pop. He reminds me that I’m closer to thirty, that he’s ready to send me more wrinkle cream when I need it, and that he loves me more than the world.
8am: Get swole with the best work-out buddy, Liz. The staff in the gym sing a round of Happy Birthday. I’m slightly mortified but appreciative.
10:28am: Make it to chick fil a for breakfast! Phew. That was a close one.
10:50am: Arrive at my office to find this. My floor is covered in balloons, enough helium balloons to fly, streamers draped the ceiling, and my lovely friend Sally brought me a corn stalk from her ranch. Yes, I like to decorate with corn. It’s the fall, y’all.
11:00am: Find this gem care of one of my students. I miss Texas.
Noon: Eat lunch with the wonderful Mama Lynne. She supplies me with wisdom and birthday love.
2pm: One of my students arrives at my office and tells me he has a problem only I can help with. He needs me to follow him “oh no,” i thought, “is he in trouble? is it his car? did he get in a wreck? why can’t we talk about this in my office? Is he leaving school?”
We step outside of my office only to find my wonderful orientation team has gathered to sing me happy birthday and give me a chocolate cake. Phew. I only had a slight heart attack.
2:30pm: Flowers arrive. smiles smiles smiles.
6:30pm: Arrive at my fave restaurant to find some of my very favorite people in the world. A small band was playing live music and my heart was incredibly happy.
A few days later, Megan (my co-worker) took me to Richmond on a scavenger hunt only to lead me to Vineyard Vines where she purchased me a new headband and croakies. #headbandlove
You read this and think, “Wow, that seems pretty standard. Why was it your favorite?” I don’t know. You’re right, it was very standard. But there’s just something about being surprised (which is EXTREMELY hard to do to me) and being around the people you love.
Love and thanks to everyone who made my birthday wonderful. Twenty-seven doesn’t seem so bad. Except just now when I wrote it..my throat is closing up…oh dear.
